COMMUNITY FIRST, INC. CORE PROGRAMS

  • At International Academy, we are committed to providing a high-quality education aligned with the Kansas State Learning Standards. Our curriculum goes beyond these standards and offers a comprehensive framework that helps children connect their learning, think critically and independently, and develop a love of learning. We have four core programs, and we work closely with valuable partnerships to build a sustainable learning institute where our students can excel spiritually, academically, and socially.

  • The Topeka Council of Colored Women's Club is an esteemed historic clubhouse that African-American club women acquired in the early 1930s. This registered National Historic Site is directly associated with the National Association of Colored Women's Club. The clubhouse is in the historic district of Tennessee Town in Topeka, one of the first African American Communities established during the Kansas Exodus movement. The lower portion of the clubhouse has been converted into a resources exhibit that displays a wide range of artifacts. Visitors can explore this exhibit, which features original furniture, appliances, documents, photo albums, needlework, and recipes that have been preserved, archived, or collected throughout the years.

  • The Youth Pilot Program provides students with alternative career options that are not typically within their realm of opportunity. The current shortage of pilots nationwide emphasizes the importance of inspiring and preparing young minds to pursue commercial or corporate aviation careers. Our “Careers in Aviation” program aims to provide young people with hands-on training in airplane operation. The program covers the history of aviation, the eligibility requirements for aspiring pilots, and comprehensive ground instruction on various aspects of flying. This includes learning about airplane parts, the aerodynamics of flight, how weather affects flying operations, airspace, communication protocols for aviation, and a flight simulation module.

  •  Bridging the Gap is a collaborative program established through My Better America in partnership with Community First, Inc. Its primary objective is to build strong relationships between families, law enforcement, and community providers to promote recovery from traumatic experiences that disproportionately affect individuals from low-income backgrounds and marginalized communities.

The program takes a comprehensive and integrated approach to address the complex needs of disenfranchised communities. Bridging the Gap recognizes the interconnectedness of social, psychological, systemic, and economic factors contributing to trauma and adopts a holistic approach. By leveraging the expertise of legal attorneys, community providers, and law enforcement, the program aims to develop sustainable solutions that foster recovery and healing.
